North Down and Ards GP Out of Hours Service operates;

  • Monday to Friday 6pm-8.30am
  • All day Saturday and Sunday
  • Bank Holidays

It is based at Ards Hospital and can be accessed via the minor injury unit, then follow the directions given inside.

Please remember that this is essentially an emergency service and therefore should not be used for routine care that can wait.

Medical Emergency

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency or present to you closest Emergency Department.  This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

If you are too ill or frail to be able to make it into the practice and require a home visit, please telephone as close to 8.30am as possible that day to request this.

The receptionist will ask you for a few details to allow the Doctor to assess the urgency of your case.

Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the practice.
